FIFTEEN INJURED IN MISSISSAUGA, ONT., EXPLOSION

Police are searching for two suspects after 15 people were injured by an “improvised explosive device” inside an Indian restaurant in Mississauga, Ont. Peel Region police said they were called about the explosion in the Bombay Bhel restaurant just after 10:30 p.m. ET. Paramedics say three people suffered critical injuries and the other 12 suffered minor injuries.

TORIES PROMISE ‘EXPLOSIVE REVELATIONS’ ABOUT NDP

Ontario’s Progressive Conservatives are promising “explosive revelations” about anti-Semitism within the NDP, as the provincial election campaign grows increasingly nasty. These new allegations will come a day after the Liberals accused PC Leader Doug Ford of selling bogus party memberships and intimidating a would-be candidate in 2016 — allegations Ford has dismissed.

FEDS LIMIT CHINOOK FISHERY ON WEST COAST

The federal government is placing limits on the West Coast chinook salmon fishery in an effort to protect endangered whales. There a few dozen southern resident killer whales remaining in three separate pods that inhabit waters from Vancouver Island to northern California, and chinook make up a large portion of their diet.

WEATHER CO-OPERATES WITH MANITOBA EVACUATIONS

The weather co-operated Thursday with efforts to evacuate more than 1,000 people from two First Nations threatened by forest fires in northern Manitoba. With thick smoke no longer causing trouble at the airport in Little Grand Rapids, planes and helicopters were moving people out of the community as well as neighbouring Pauingassi, about 260 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

FREEMAN DROPPED BY TRANSLINK, VISA

Greater Vancouver’s transit agency is suspending plans for a promotional campaign featuring Morgan Freeman after the Oscar-winning actor was accused of misconduct by several women. TransLink says it has decided to halt public announcements voiced by Freeman that had been set to play in the system as part of a Visa Canada advertising campaign. Visa also announced plans to cut ties with Freeman.
