Several fires burning in northeastern BC

May 25, 2018 | 7:55 AM

Several large wildfires have grown quickly this week north of Fort St. John in the northeastern corner of the province, but no homes or properties are threatened.

The 17-square-kilometre Kahta Creek fire roughly 190 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John is the largest, but the Beatton River fire and another unnamed wildfire cover 15-square kilometres and 10-square kilometres, respectively.

Nearly a dozen fires of various sizes are burning southwest of Fort Nelson, with the largest estimated to have charred about 28-square kilometres.

The wildfire service says incident management teams have been assigned and are developing plans of attack, while any blazes in provincial parks will be left to burn themselves out, naturally.
