834 tickets and warnings handed out in Alberta parks over May long weekend

May 25, 2018 | 1:06 PM

Alberta Parks says things were kept to a dull roar over the May long weekend even though the number of tickets and warnings jumped more than 20 per cent.

The province says there were 834 so-called enforcement actions over the three days, ranging from warnings to tickets.

That’s up from 690 last year but department spokesman Bryan Sundberg says that’s because the province stepped up its enforcement this year.

Starting June 1st, parks officials will be able to write on-the-spot tickets for offences such as leaving garbage at a campsite or operating an all-terrain vehicle outside a designated trail or area.
