Grande Prairie Councillor reflects on conference in Halifax

Jun 6, 2018 | 5:09 PM

Six Grande Prairie City Councillors and Mayor Bill Given were part of a busy four day Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Councillor Kevin O’Toole says he was able to attend a few workshops including one presentation about concrete versus asphalt for roads.

“I am not saying that Grande Prairie is going to go (to concrete), but there is potential when we look at tenders in the future. Right now, the city looks at the lowest qualified bidder.”

He is hoping to bring up the conversation of how tenders are awarded at a future committee meeting.

Among others, there were workshops called “getting ready for legalized cannabis” and “what local governments bring to the global table”.

From May 31 to June 3, municipal leaders from across Canada embarked on the east coast city to attend workshops, speaker presentations, and networking events.
