Municipal Government Day in Grande Prairie

Jun 12, 2018 | 10:37 AM

The city of Grande Prairie is celebrating a milestone on this Municipal Government Day.

It has been 60 years since Grande Prairie was granted city status says Councillor Chris Thiessen.

“From the college to the airport west there was nothing but farmer’s field. The growth that Grande Prairie has seen since being incorporated as a city and especially over the last 20 years has been incredible.”

As part of the festivities, there will be a BBQ, Kids Zone and Youth Art Contests Awards.

He adds it is a great opportunity to learn more about the city and its services.

“(There are) over 750 full-time employees in the City of Grande Prairie that help make the city operate on a day-to-day basis, so if you want to learn about snow removal, go sit in a fire truck or see what the inside of our new transit bus is going to look like or if you just want to talk to people at different tables about the services and different programs that are provided by the City of Grande Prairie, it is all going to be down there at Revolution Place.”

Municipal Government Day celebrations run from 4-7 p.m. with free transit running from noon until 8 p.m.
