Detour changes on the horizon for downtown Grande Prairie

Jun 13, 2018 | 5:50 AM

As construction season barrels on, detours will be noticed around the city’s downtown core.

City Representative for the Downtown Rehabilitation project Monty Haughian says people should keep their eyes open for detour changes in the next few weeks.

“In the next few weeks, now that everybody knows how to use the 102 Avenue detour, we are going to change it.,” said Haughian.

“The work is going to progress into the intersection of 102 Street and 100 Avenue which is the intersection near 214 Place. It is going to have a major impact on traffic.”

The detour hasn’t been nailed down yet, but the city rep says it can be expected to be announced later this week.

In the meantime, he is working with funeral homes to navigate funeral processions as well as the best routes for emergency services to use.

Haughian says this chunk of work at the intersection could take approximately 30 days.

An information session on downtown work is being held on June 19 at 8 a.m. at Laurel’s Preserves. It is open to the public.
