Firefighters rescue dog in Royal Oaks area fire

City firefighters saved a dog’s life following a house fire last night in Royal Oaks.
It happened just after 7 p.m. and when crews arrived they discovered the fire in the home’s basement and were able to stop it from spreading.
The flames were brought under control in 20 minutes.
Five people inside, as well as three pets, made it out safely, but firefighters had to go back and find one dog that the owners could not.
