Weapons, drugs seized near High Prairie

A number of weapons and some drugs were seized from the Kapawe’no First Nations near High Prairie earlier this week.

On Monday, Lakeshore Regional Police Service and the High Prairie RCMP Integrated Drug Enforcement unit executed search warrants and found two assault rifles, two shotguns, a rifle and approximately 290 grams of cocaine.

Branden Mcleod (Halcrow), 35, from Kapawe’no First Nations was arrested and charged with the following:

– Possession for the purpose of trafficking Cocaine;
– Unsafe Storage of Firearm;
– Possession of a firearm with out a licence;
– Failure to comply with Justice of the peace Recognizance;

He is to appear in High Prairie Provincial Court June 25th.

In a news release, the RCMP say “Branden Mcleod was previously released 6 times between June 2017 and May 2018 where he has been charged for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine, Possession of Cocaine 3 times and breaching his conditions with in that time period.”

Adding “the High Prairie Integrated Drug Enforcement Unit aims to identify and disrupt organized crime in the town of High Prairie, County of Big Lakes and surrounding area, and to arrest and hold people accountable for their involvement in their criminal activities.”
