‘Active Play’ being offered at city parks

Jun 22, 2018 | 10:59 AM

The city will be offering youth a chance to get together with their friends this summer through a free drop-in program.

Hayley Kramps, City of Grande Prairie Recreation Programs Supervisor, says it is for kids aged 6 to 12 and they do not need to be accompanied by an adult.

“The goal is that we put them in different community areas that are really close to a lot of residentials, so your kids they can be 10 and (have) taken a Home Alone course and have not a lot to do that day, they can walk over to the park and play some games led by leaders and have some fun.”

She says Active Play will run twice a day in select neighbourhoods.

“So it depends on the week, we have Mother Theresa Playground, J.C. Mackie Park, Alexander Forbes Playground, Hillside School Playground, Avondale Park, Aspen Grove Playground, Maude Clifford Playground and École Nouvelle Frontière.”

Kramps asks that attending youth fill out a form that can be found on the city’s website and bring it to the park.

Active Play will run from July 3rd until August 30th twice daily Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. -12 p.m. and 1:30 -4:30 p.m.
