County of Grande Prairie gives out 100 Years of Farming Awards

Jul 10, 2018 | 12:56 PM

The County of Grande Prairie has given out two 100 Years of Farming Awards.

The Van Schaick family has been given the Pioneer Farming Family Award, emblematic of families that have lived and farmed or ranched in the County for more than 100 years.

They have had their homestead quarter near Wembley since 1916, only recently renting out the land.

The Norman family of La Glace has been given the Heritage Homestead Award. This is for those who have been in the County more than 100 years and have retained ownership of the homestead quarter. The family still grows grain on that land.

Both families were recognized at the Agricultural Services Board meeting Friday.

The County says applications for the awards are taken all year round.
