City focusing on construction zone safety and dog protocols for July

Jul 14, 2018 | 6:00 AM

For the month of July, Enforcement Services officers in Grande Prairie will be focussing on construction zone safety.

Supervisor of Enforcement Services Kelly Kokesch says as part of the Selected Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), officers will be giving a friendly reminder for motorists to keep an eye out for road workers.

“(There is) a lot of construction going on all over the city and the province on roads. So, we are asking motorists to really heed those speed signs and keep those construction workers safe.”

Kokesch says people need to keep themselves safe during construction as well. He says there can be sections of road cut-away or loose gravel even after a project is complete.

In addition to construction zone safety, animal licensing and off-leash pets is also a focus for bylaw enforcement this month.

Kokesch adds it’s important for pet owners to know the protocol in the city.

“We are encouraging people to license their animals first off, if they are new to town and to also follow the rules around having animals. Make sure they are on a leash, not in an athletic field or ground, and to pick up after their dog.”

There are specific off-leash areas in the city for people to bring their furry friends.
