Judo Grande Prairie members heading to Japan

Members from the Grande Prairie Judo Club are travelling to Tokyo, Japan next week.

Sensai Carlos Grisales says Michelle Grisales and Sydney Kinderwater will be two of sixteen teenagers from Alberta attending the event and are excited for the opportunity to expand their judo knowledge.

“The first week they plan to visit and train at the [Kodokan Judo Institute] which is the house where judo began roughly 100 years ago. Then they will move to another city for high-level training.”

Grisales adds everyone is extremely honoured and happy to be heading to Japan to train against the worlds best.

“Getting an invitation to train at the Kodokan, you have to be invited or [know someone who trains there]. It’s a privilege.”

The girls will use this as preparation for the Canada Winter Games in 2019.

They will be in Japan from July 20 to August 5.
