Construction started on new Wembley water line
Construction of a long-awaited new water line for Wembley is underway.
Mayor Chris Turnmire says work got going a couple weeks ago and that it is huge for the community.
“It allows increased growth both residentially and from a commercial, business aspect, that type of thing. It alleviates any concern or worry with regards to operating from aquifers or a well system in which a number of things can always go wrong with that.”
Turnmire says the new line should be finished in March or April of next year.
“In terms of the residents, they want to have green lawns, they’ll have water there for that and they won’t be on water restriction like we are now. We are on a Level 3(restriction), which has not allowed for that.”
He adds Wembley’s towns and businesses do not have to do anything when the lone comes along.
“A couple of years ago, we went through the process of installing water meters, so everything’s ready to go. We’ve been on a metering system now for the last couple of years, so it’s just a matter of continuing that process.”
