Rainfall warnings in place across the Peace

Jul 19, 2018 | 1:22 PM

Update: With all the rain in the forecast, the Street Performers Festival will be moving indoors to the Dave Barr Arena. The same hours apply; today 4:30 to 10 p.m., tomorrow 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 am to 6 p.m.

Most of the Peace Country is now under a rainfall warning.

The Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, Fairview, Peace River, High Prairie, and Manning areas are all included, as well as the B.C. Peace.

There is also a rainfall warning in effect for Hinton and Grande Cache.

The rain is expected to start today.

Environment Canada says there could be 70 to 90 millimetres over a big area by Sunday, with the heaviest rain falling between the Saddle Hills and Highway 16.

The weather office says Grande Prairie could see 100 millimetres by Sunday.

Meantime, representatives with the Alberta Summer Games say they expect all sports to go ahead unless there is lightning, especially events like rugby and football.  Baseball and softball could see a reduction of games, or games with fewer innings.

The Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival Association says on its Facebook page they are working on an indoor venue just in case the weather is terrible.
