Northern Lights Area Structure Plan open house

Jul 23, 2018 | 6:20 AM

City planners will be presenting a draft plan for what the very northeast section of the city could look like and they would like to hear feedback from the public.

An open house for the Northern Lights Area Structure Plan is being held Tuesday, July 24 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion.

The over 1,000 hectares of land located north of Lakeland and Crystal Lake was annexed from the County in 2016.

“The area is primarily for industrial development.  There will be opportunities for regional commercial centres at the two major corners of the plan area,” said Reed Des Roches, Senior Planner with the City of Grande Prairie.  “There’s also two very large recreation centres that we are proposing in the plan area.”

Des Roches says those recreation centres could be similar to the Dave Barr site and South Bear Creek. He says the large recreation site is proposed for the south-west corner of the plan area which would be adjacent to a lot of future residential.

Anyone who lives in the area and is interested in the long-term vision for it, is encouraged to attend the open house.

Those who can not make it may submit their feedback by e-mail or schedule a meeting with the planners by contacting neindustrial@cityofgp.com.
