Gunfire near Spirit River leads to charges
One man is facing charges after an altercation with gunshots near Spirit River.
Spirit River RCMP were called Friday around 3 p.m. to a property south of town. A suspect was found trespassing on the complainant’s neighbour’s property. The suspect drove off after being confronted and was followed by the complainant.
The suspect then fired shots from a handgun at the complainant’s vehicle striking its side. He then continued southbound, followed a passing vehicle into a yard of a rural residence. The suspect pointed a gun at the male driver, while the female passenger took the keys and retreated into the residence leaving a four-year-old in the back seat. After another gunshot was fired, the female handed the keys over to the suspect.
The male driver retrieved a gun from the residence and confronted the suspect as he attempted to transfer stolen property from one vehicle to another. Gunfire was exchanged between the males, but no one was injured.
