Oct 19, 2018 | 5:30 AM

Alberta Justice says a  man caught by RCMP with the help of farmers has been given a 113-day jail sentence in a Grande Prairie court.

Nineteen-year-old Bradley Almas was given the nearly four-month term after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of property over $5000. He was also given a $200 fine and a one-month concurrent sentence each on a count of resisting a peace officer and failure to comply with a probation order.

Three other charges were withdrawn.

Police were called out September 30, 2018 when a vehicle that turned out to be stolen from BC was stuck in a ditch along Township Road 670,  just east of Grande Prairie.

A farmer gave an RCMP member a ride on a side-by-side after the suspect ran off.  The man was arrested with no more trouble.

Four-year sentence in drug case

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie court has given a four-year jail sentence to a man charged after a 2017 drug bust.

Nicholas Rak was given the jail term Monday after pleading guilty to five charges back in April, ones that included possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a dangerous weapon, and three counts of breach of probation.

He had been facing 20 charges after being arrested the afternoon October 18, 2017, after a traffic stop at 98 Street and 112 Avenue.

Police seized GHB, powdered fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and more than $1300 cash.

Rak will be given 18 months credit for time already spent behind bars.

Accused in Peace River stabbing skips trial

Alberta Justice says a warrant has been issued for a man charged in a double-stabbing in Peace River after he failed to show up for his trial earlier this month.

The trial for Steven Daniel Phair was set to run from October 9 to 17.

He was arrested after two men were stabbed in December of 2016 at around 2 a.m. They went to a nearby liquor store for help.

Both were treated in hospital and released, although one did have to be taken to Edmonton for treatment.

Phair was arrested just under a month after the stabbings took place.
