Grande Prairie’s RCMP Superintendent happy with #14 ranking

Nov 8, 2018 | 6:47 AM

Grande Prairie’s RCMP Superintendent is happy with the city being number 14 on MACLEANS list of Canada’s Most Dangerous Places but aims to do better.

Supt. Donnan McKenna says a lot of work has been done to bring down crime numbers.

“We work with all of the resources that we’ve got and will continue to work, we have to thank the County (of Grande Prairie). The county has now supplied us with enhanced officers to work in our Crime Reduction Unit as well as our Drug Section and of course the City of Grande Prairie has put significant investment into policing.”

He says as the economy continues to pick up and people move here for work, the department is bracing for crime to increase.

“Crime will actually rise because our population is rising too and we are 6,000 more than Stats Canada used to calculate us as number 14 and that is much better then number one and honestly that we are not out of the top 20 is a little disappointing but we will keep working at it.”

He says the goal is to get out of the top 50 when it comes to Canada’s Most Dangerous Places.
