Playoffs underway at Canadian Mixed, Tour Championship continues

Alberta opened championship pool play at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship Thursday with a 5-3 win over Manitoba.
 
Kurt Balderston’s rink is now 5-2 and will play 5-2 Quebec Thursday evening. They are tied for third in the standings. Ontario leads at 7-0 followed by Nova Scotia at 6-1.
 
The gold medal game is set for Saturday in Winnipeg.
 
 At the Tour Challenge in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Casey Scheidegger lost 5-3 to Tracy Fleury to drop to 0-2. Scheidegger faces Laura Walker in her next game Friday. Grande Prairie’s Kristie Moore and Cary-Anne McTaggart are on the Scheidegger rink.
 
Brad Gushue and Geoff Walker play Jason Gunnlaugson Thursday evening. Team Gushue is 2-0 so far.
 
Kevin Koe lost 8-1 to Brendan Bottcher Thursday afternoon to drop to 1-1. He will play Glenn Howard tomorrow.
