Busy Saturday for local hockey teams, leagues

Day two of the NWJHL Showcase featured three games. 

Gary Loewen scored twice as Fort St John beat the County Kings 4-1. 

Chase Henrikson scored twice and added an assist as North Peace got by Sexsmith 6-2.

And Tristin Corliss scored twice as Fairview surprised first place Dawson Creek 5-3.  

The showcase event wraps up today as Fort St John faces Fairview at 1 and North Peace plays the County Kings at 4pm, both at Crosslink County Sportsplex.

Three games last night in the NPHL, including Falher edging Grimshaw 9-8 in overtime on Dakota Mason’s extra time marker. 

Braden Gamble made 51 saves in a losing cause, as Manning fell 3-1 at home to Dawson Creek.

And Fort St John got goals from 11 different players, including three each from Robbie Sidhu and Joey Massingham, as they hammered High Prairie 17-2.

Edge Lambert scored twice to lead the Ernie’s Major Midget Storm past SSAC 3-2 yesterday. 

Justin Becher also scored for the Storm, while Nolan Flint added two assists. 

Meanwhile the Golden Arrow Bantam AAA fell 3-2 to the PAC Saints. 

Rhys Doyle and Jaxson Walker scored for the Storm.

PCFAC Female Midget Storm suffered their first regulation loss last night, falling 4-3 in Sherwood Park. 

Arilyn Toews scored twice while Jailyn Bablitz added the other goal for the Storm, who are now 5-1-1 on the season. 

Meanwhile the Bonnett’s Energy Female Bantam Elite picked up their first win of the season, 5-2 over Lethbridge. 

Hailey Armstrong scored three times while Hailey Rodrigue and Baili Isley added singles.
