Suspect shot during confrontation with local RCMP

A suspect was taken to hospital this morning after police say he was shot during a confrontation with Grande Prairie RCMP officers.

Around 4 a.m. Tuesday, RCMP attempted to stop a stolen vehicle. A confrontation occurred between two suspects and police, resulting in a Mountie’s firearm being discharged.  

The injured man was transported to hospital.  No officers were injured and RCMP say there was no concern for public safety at any point. 

Our newsroom received several calls this morning notifying us of a heavy police presence near Bluewave Energy.

Staff at the Western Budget motel told Everything GP police had 99th Street behind their building barricaded off and officers had been on site since around 4 a.m.

The shooting is being investigated by The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
