GP Volunteer Services Bureau hands out yearly awards

Dec 15, 2018 | 4:30 AM

The Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau recently handed out their 2018 volunteer and corporate volunteer of the year awards.

Executive Director Carol Anne Pasemko says a very deserving Cayla Kushnirak took home the Volunteer of the Year honours.

She mostly volunteers at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and they had nominated her given the difference she has made for their programs this year.

“Cayla has done an incredible amount of volunteering over the year and she kind-of just jumped into it both feet at the beginning of the year and she has done well over 800 hours in one program, and 400 in another, and all while packing around six little people under the age of seven.”

The 2018 Corporate Volunteer of the Year Award went to Revolution Auto Group.

“Primarily for all of the work that they did around the Summer Games, but also because they have some really good policies around their staff volunteering, which is of course what we like to see,” says Pasemko. “They have a policy if staff volunteer for 40 hours or more they can take that in time off and stuff along that line.  They’re really into the community and promoting volunteering in the community.”

There were also six people named Outstanding Members of the Community.  They are James Aasen, Tracy Allard, Carlos Grisales, Sharon Lejeune, David Olinger and Lionel Robbins.
