An Edmonton police officer is facing a charge of careless use of a firearm after his service weapon accidentally went off.

Police say the officer had just finished cleaning his gun at his home in May, 2017, when it discharged.

The bullet went through a patio door but no one was hurt.

The officer reported the accident to police.

Investigators could not find the bullet.

Const. Jack Klick was charged Thursday and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
