GPRC recruits new Vice President, Academics and Research

Jan 12, 2019 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional College is going to see a new face in the near future.

The GPRC announced it’s hired current Dean of the Centre for Applied Arts and Sciences at Lethbridge College Dr. Tim Heath as its new Vice President of Academics and Research.

GPRC President and CEO Don Gnatiuk notes the school went through a rigorous search to fill the role, and Heath is a good fit for a school transitioning to becoming degree-granting.

“We’re really proud to be able to recruit Dr. Heath into our college,” says Gnatiuk. “We went through a comprehensive search and canvassed nationally. It was wonderful to be able to find someone who had experience in transitioning to degree-granting and university status, and an Albertan.”

Gnatiuk explains this won’t be Heath’s first time in Grande Prairie as he attended GPRC from 1976 to 1978. He says finding someone who would fit in with a school that is soon becoming degree-granting was a big part of their search for a new Vice-President.

“A big part of the recruiting process is finding someone who would align and be able to drive us through the degree-granting process, so that was one of our top priorities.”

GPRC is working on getting Heath to Grande Prairie as soon as possible, and Gnatiuk says they’re hoping he’ll be in the Swan City within 60 days.
