Travel not recommended for Grande Prairie region after freezing rain

Jan 13, 2019 | 7:43 AM

A freezing rain warning has ended for the Grande Prairie region.

But Mounties are not recommending travel in the area due to extremely icy roads.

According to 511Alberta.ca, Highway 43 from the BC border to DeBolt, Highway 2 from Grande Prairie to Sexsmith, Highway 59 between Highways 43 and 2, and Highway 40 from Grande Prairie to past Musreau Lake, are all listed as snow and ice covered.

Highway 43 is currently closed at Range Road 131, after several vehicles went into the ditch in that area.

Mounties are also investigating and cleaning up a multi vehicle collision on Highway 40 at the Correction Line.

City streets are also very slippery this morning.

If you absolutely do need to go somewhere today, please drive with care and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
