Male hurt in officer-involved shooting near High Level

One male has been injured after an officer-involved shooting near High Level Saturday evening.

Around 8:15 p.m., RCMP members were called to reports of a distraught male at a residence south of High Level.

When they arrived, members engaged with the male who produced a firearm. According to police, the male fired his weapon first and an officer returned fire. The male then barricaded himself in the residence.

The K Division Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Air Services were all called in.

The next afternoon, around 2 p.m. the male surrendered to police. He was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

No officers were injured as a result of the incident.

The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified of the incident and indicated the investigation would remain with the RCMP.
