New rules announced for road construction zones

Jan 16, 2019 | 6:06 AM

Alberta is changing the rules so motorists won’t be ticketed when they drive at normal speed through empty road construction zones.

Transportation Minister Brian Mason says he has heard a lot of complaints from drivers who get ticketed for not driving at posted reduced speeds on construction sites when there are no workers present.

The rule change will require companies to cover up the reduced-speed signs when the worksite is empty.

Getting ticketed in construction zones is a pricey penalty because fines and demerits double.
