Local representatives confident 2022 Winter Games will be held in Grande Prairie region

The Arctic Winter Games Selection Committee is in the process of determining where the 2022 games will be taking place.

The decision has come down to Grande Prairie or Fort McMurray.

The Selection Committee was here on Monday for a tour of the Swan City and the surrounding area.

City Councilor Dylan Bressey is confident the games will be held here.

“Well, when we win this bid, I know that we’ll give these kids from around the world a memorable time that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives,” says Bressey. “I know we’ve got great hospitality, I know we’ve got a fun culture; we’ve got an amazing community to show off to these kids.”

County of Grande Prairie Councilor Karen Rosvold also weighed in, saying there’s a variety of reasons the games could be held here.

“We’ve got so many municipalities working together to try and host this together. We’ve done a lot of events in the past and we’ve always been very successful. We’re just coming off of the Canada Summer Games that we’ve had here and we had an outstanding event. We’ve got such a good volunteer base, we’ve got such diversity in the groups. I think we’ve got such a good chance,” says Rosevold.
