UPDATE: Grande Prairie RCMP confirm suspicious death

UPDATE (6:49 p.m. Jan 20): Grande Prairie RCMP now say they are investigating what they describe as the suspicious death of an adult male.

Police were called to an altercation around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of 100 Avenue and 98 Street.

They found a man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

RCMP have not released the name of the victim, but friends of the male have identified him as John Johnston of Grande Prairie.

No other information is being released at this time. Updates will come out as they become available.

(12:01 p.m.) There was a police presence outside The Industry Sunday and the area was taped off.

Reports to our newsroom indicate someone died at the establishment Saturday night, but RCMP have not confirmed this.

Everything GP has reached out to local RCMP and they have told us they have no information to release at this time and would not confirm if there was a fatality.
