Local players at Alberta Scotties

The Alberta women’s provincial curling championship is underway in Stettler and a number of Peace Region curlers are playing.
 
Janais DeJong’s rink from Sexsmith won its first game 6-5 over Krysta Hilker from Sherwood Park. Grande Prairie’s Sydney Steinke is on Hilker’s team. DeJong’s next game is in the 6:30 p.m Wednesday draw against Chelsea Carey.
 
Team Casey Scheidegger, which includes Grande Prairie’s Kristie Moore and Cary-Anne McTaggart, is there as the defending champions. They will play their first game in that 6:30 p.m Wednesday draw against Marla Sherrer from Lacombe.
 
Beaverlodge product Stephanie Enright is playing lead on Nicky Kaufman’s team. They lost their first game 9-6 to Calgary’s Kaitlyn Stubbs.
 
The champion will be decided Sunday.
