Comets pull even with Huskies in NPHL playoffs

Feb 9, 2019 | 8:57 AM

The Manning Comets were able to pull even in their East Division Semi-Final on Friday, knocking off the Grimshaw Huskies 7-3 in game two.

Ty Wiebe put the huskies up early in the contest, scoring just under five minutes in. Michael Gillen evened it up on the power play five minutes later, but Josh Peters would send the Huskies to the dressing room up one, potting a power play goal with less than a minute to go in the frame.

Josh Rutherford tied it early in the second with another power play marker. Goals from Thomas Simpson and Matt Boyd later in the period gave the Comets a 4-2 edge. After Grimshaw brought it to within one, Taylor Paulovich and Adam Larson both scored in the final minute of the second, giving the Comets a 6-3 lead after 40 minutes.

Rutherford would add his second of the game in the third, tying the bets-of-seven series up at a game apiece. Game three goes tonight in Grimshaw.

The other two semi-final matchups continue Saturday as well. Falher hosts High Prairie in game three, with the Pirates up 2-0 in that series. Fort St John is in Grande Prairie to play the A’s in game three in the West Semi-Final. That series is tied at a game apiece.

All Saturday games go at 8:30.
