Rudyk scores twice, Kings win third straight in Saturday NWJHL play

Feb 10, 2019 | 8:10 AM

The County of Grande Prairie JDA Kings made it three straight wins on Saturday night, taking down the Dawson Creek Jr. Canucks 5-1. Justin Rudyk had a pair of goals for the Kings, who have now won 11 of their last 13.

Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t gain any ground in the standings on North Peace, as the Navigators knocked off the Sundown Oilfield Services Sexsmith Vipers 2-1 in overtime.  Both teams traded goals in the second, and Robert Lemay scored 1:45 into the extra frame to seal the win for the Peace River crew.

The Navs now have 38 points on the season, sitting in third in the NWJHL standings, one point up on the Kings. The Kings do have a game in hand as the schedule enters the final week of the regular season.

One other game Saturday had the Fort St. John Huskies thumping the Fairview Flyers 7-2. The Huskies need just one win in their final three games to lock up the best record in the regular season.
