It's now day 10 for the Extreme Cold Warning for Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview and areas.

Many parts of the province can expect extreme wind chill values of between minus 40 and minus 45 to continue from the later evening hours into the mornings throughout the week.

For Grande Prairie, the wind chill will be around minus 40 this morning and minus 27 this afternoon.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.

With these conditions, frostbite can develop in just a matter of minutes.

As for school bus cancellations, buses are usually cancelled if it is colder than minus 40 without the wind chill.

You can check school bus cancellations here.
