Carbon monoxide alarm saves family

Feb 12, 2019 | 4:00 PM

The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service says a working carbon monoxide alarm saved a family Tuesday.

Fire crews were called out at 8:30 a.m. after the alarm went off.

The home was evacuated.

Firefighters discovered what a release from the County calls dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the air.

No one was injured.

A problem with the furnace set off the alarm.

“The family was actually unsure of what to do when they heard their carbon monoxide alarm,” says Regional Fire Service Captain of Dangerous Goods Mike Shykora in that same release, adding “It’s critical to test your carbon monoxide alarm so you know what it sounds like, and when the alarm sounds, call 911.”
