A 48-year-old man is pronounced dead, and a 31-year-old male is in custody following an altercation at the intersection of 100 Avenue and 92 Street at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday.

As Grande Prairie RCMP and Emergency Services responded to the call, the 48-year-old was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. He died of his injuries a short time later in hospital.

The suspect remains in custody and is awaiting a judicial interim release hearing.

RCMP Major Crime’s North has taken over the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

Police say the investigation is preliminary in nature and RCMP resources are expected to remain in the area for some time. They ask that the public avoids the area during the investigation.Westbound and southbound lanes at that intersection remain taped off for the investigation, which is causing traffic delays in the area.

RCMP send their thoughts to the victim’s family during this difficult time.
