Community Opioid Response Task Force launched

Dec 5, 2017 | 4:44 AM

At last night’s council meeting the mayor announced the launch of a Community Opioid Response Task Force.

It brings together local organizations already dealing with the crisis as well as the business community, school districts and the city.

The first organizational meeting was held already where groups got together to share information and start the process of developing a coordinated community action plan, specific to Grande Prairie.

“The level of cooperation and commitment from the Task Force members to work together in the sharing of information and to begin developing a community action plan for Grande Prairie is encouraging,” said Mayor Bill Given. “We know that we are not going to solve the issue of opioid use in Grande Prairie overnight, but we know that a collective, coordinated effort gives us the best chance to reduce the impact opioid use is having on our community.”
