A Grande Prairie resident will be in Las Vegas this week as he try's out for one of the top competitions in the world.

Alex Martinez, a mixed martial artist will begin his try-out for the UFC's latest season of the Ultimate Fighter.

" We will go and get to showcase our skills. We get interviews and stuff like that to see if we are what they are looking for for the show. It's a big show. Then once you enter the show it is a big tournament to compete for the contract for the UFC," shared Martinez.

Martinez knows the competition at the try-out is going to be fierce and with this in mind, he had to train extremely hard to make sure he was prepared.

" We had to drill lots. Every single day show up drill my striking. Every single day show up and drill my ground, and my wrestling. All you have to do to get ready is drill, drill, drill. "

The try-out for the Ultimate Fighter is going to be extremely competitive according to Martinez as everyone participating in the try-out is going to be undefeated and have impressive records.

Whether he makes the show or not, Martinez stated he believes this is a great opportunity to get noticed by the UFC.

Martinez will begin his try-out on Tuesday and have it wrap up on Saturday.
