One man charged following firearm complaint

On February 2nd at 4 a.m. police received a complaint of a male on the side of the road of Highway 40 who was brandishing a firearm.

RCMP attended and initiated a traffic stop from which the driver fled. The members persued the vehicle but lost sight due to poor weather conditions. The vehicle was located a short time later. The male driver exited the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the police prior to running to a nearby oil field lease where RCMP were able to arrest the driver without incident.

Cory Stephens, 40, of Hythe, has been charged with multiple offences including:

– Flight from police
– Drive while disqualified
– Pointing a firearm x 2
– Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public x 4
– Use firearm while committing offence x 2
– Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order x 6
– Possession of a firearm while unauthorized x 4
– Possession of a prohibited firearm x 2
– Unauthorized possession of a loaded prohibited firearm x 2
– Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 x 6
– Fail to comply with probation order x 6
– Breach of recognizance x 8
– Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle x 6
