UPDATE:Semi tanker rollover near Spirit River cleaned up

May 23, 2018 | 2:34 PM

UPDATE: RCMP report that as of 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, the wreckage “has been cleared from highway 49, and the roadway has been re-opened to traffic in both directions.”

Vehicles are currently not able to go east or west on Highway 49 as a semi tanker has rolled over.

RCMP and emergency crews are on the scene approximately two kilometres west of Spirit River. People are advised to take a different route.

The driver of the semi has been taken to hospital for minor injuries and a fire that was started by the semi has been put out. The rollover did cause an oil leak, but according to a media release, there is no risk to the public.

Recovery crews are expected to be in the area for several hours and there is no timeline for when the highway will re-open.

An update will be provided when it’s available.
