The Girl Who Gave Her Wish Away – 4 Keys to Leaving a Personal Legacy

Jul 8, 2014 | 10:53 AM

Contributed by Stephanie Staples at Your Life Unlimited

I cannot imagine much more personal tragedy than to watch your husband slowly die of ALS and have your daughter ravaged by cancer, but that is Sharon Babineau’s story. In her page-turning book, The Girl Who Gave Her Wish Away, you walk with the family as this sad journey turns to one of inspiration and insight.

On this weeks Your Life, Unlimited radio show Sharon shares her story and Tiana Northage gives a compelling example of  the trendy ‘Spoken Word’ in her winning (and moving) Poetry Slam entry entitled Daddy. At only 17 year old,  I predict this girl will be one to watch in the years to come!

Four Keys to Living a Powerful Personal Legacy

#1. Know Your Life Matters

Our legacy is not about the “stuff” we leave behind; it’s more about how we lived our lives. Making a difference in someone’s life will far outlast any possession we could possibly leave behind for a loved one. That’s a powerful personal legacy. That’s what true living is all about.

#2. Live it Before you Leave It

With a personal legacy the reality is you have to live it first before you can leave it. You have the power to create the kind of life you want to be remembered by; don’t live by default. You have to take the actions that impact and inspire others. Live on purpose, lead by example.

How can you live a powerful personal legacy? Knowing what your life purpose is will simplify how you live your life, bringing clarity to what you want and don’t want in your life.

#3. It is Never Too Late to be Great

Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
What is your gift? What can you do for others? What are the lessons that you learned through your trials and tribulations, successes and triumphs that you can use to help others? No matter how old or young you are, it is never too late. Act now.

#4. How to Take Action and Follow Your Path

Robin Sharma in his book “The Saint, The Surfer and The CEO” said,
“If you had one year to live, you’d make certain that you lived without regrets; you’d take chances; you’d risk opening your heart to love; you’d live with total passion, great gusto, and a lovely focus on the worthy.”

The first thing in the action steps along your path is to sit quietly and listen to your inner voice and heart to find your purpose. Write it all down.

Things to help the earth Things for others Things for yourself Things for the world

At the end of your life – three questions will come to you:
Did I live wisely? Did I love well? Did I serve greatly?

How will you answer those questions?

That will be your personal legacy.
TODAY – I WILL LIVE POWERFULLY – MY LIFE MATTERS!
