Local businesses recognized during Small Business Week

Oct 20, 2017 | 9:01 AM

It’s Small Business Week and the Grande Prairie and District Chamber of Commerce recognized a few local businesses at their Awards of Distinction reception Wednesday night. There were around a dozen businesses that received awards.

Nitehawk Year Round Adventure Park received the Business of the Year award for a business with between 10 to 100 employees. Assistant General Manager Johnathan Clarkson feels that this is a sign that the community believes in the facility.

“When we did our re-branding a few years back, that is what we were aiming to do. We were aiming to bring that community feel back to Nitehawk. It shows that the community and volunteers are a big part of what built this place and what Nitehawk is today,” explains Clarkson.

GP International Street Performers Festival received an award for Arts and Culture while the Grande Prairie Stompede Association received the Community Spirit award for 2017.

Stompede President Terri Sudnik says getting this award is “pretty amazing.”

“Because (of) all the hard work after 40 years and the hundreds of people that have rolled up their sleeves and put in a lot of effort. It’s that opportunity that we can celebrate being recognized for, really, what Stompede is all about and that’s community.”

A list of nominees and past winners can be found on the Chamber’s website.
