Health advisory issued for Beaverlodge Elementary School

Oct 23, 2017 | 4:47 PM

A health advisory has been issued to the Beaverlodge Elementary School after a case of Whooping Cough was confirmed. Alberta Health Services released the information Monday and Peace Wapiti Academy posted the information their Facebook page.

AHS says Whooping Cough, also known as pertussis, has symptoms including a persistent cough and spasms of coughing that make a “whoop” sound. Parents are advised that children showing possible symptoms, or that do show symptoms within the next two weeks, should be checked by a doctor.

They also say that Whooping Cough is usually mild for older kids and adults, but can be more serious for younger kids and pregnant women in the last three months of their pregnancy. It is recommended that you make sure you are up to date on your pertussis vaccinations as well.

Information on whooping cough can be found on the “My Health” website or by calling 811.
