Beaupre re-elected County of Grande Prairie Reeve

Oct 24, 2017 | 10:42 AM

Leanne Beaupre will continue as Reeve of the County of Grande Prairie.

She ran unopposed at the organizational meeting Monday.

Ross Sutherland will be Deputy Reeve. He also ran unopposed.

Beaupre says there are a number of continuing things to work on.

“We’ve been mandated, or will be mandated by the province, to do work around the modernized Municipal Government Act, so those will be prioritized based on working on our Municipal Development Plans with other municipalities, as well as the Inter-Municipal Collaboration Frameworks.”

She says there are five important areas to concentrate on in those Frameworks, transportation being one of them.

“It’s somewhat of an enigma because transportation to rural municipalities is quite a bit different than an urban municipality. Other than that, we have been working on water and wastewater, solid waste, things like that, so those are efficiencies we’ve already addressed.”

Beaupre says several agreements have already gone to the province.

“Having talked to the Minister, we have already presented him with a lot of the agreements that we already have on-going and the renewable agreements we that have with our municipal partners and even the revenue-sharing agreement that we have with the City of Grande Prairie. He’s well aware of what we’ve already done in the past, so we’ll continue to work on those as well.”

Beaupre says a new master plan for recreation, another of the five areas, is already in place.
