Funeral procession planned for fallen firefighter on Friday

 A funeral procession for a fallen firefighter will take place Friday afternoon.

A funeral service for James Hargrave, the Cypress County firefighter who died fighting the Hilda grassfire a week ago takes place at Holy Family Parish at 1 p.m. on Friday. Immediately following the service, firefighters in attendance will be escorting the funeral procession and the Hargrave family in a march from Holy Family Parish to the Cypress Centre.

The procession is expected to take place between 2 and 3 p.m. Temporary road closures will occur in the area to allow for the funeral procession, which will affect traffic flow in the area.

The procession route will begin by exiting Holy Family Parish to 13 Avenue Southeast, and travel north of 13th Avenue to Southview Drive SE. Once on Southview Drive, the procession will travel east to Dunmore Road, where it will travel to 28 Street SE and end at the Cypress Centre.

Motorists are being urged to use an alternative route during this time.

Police say those wishing to pay their respects to Hargrave may do so by lining the route, but they are reminding residents that traffic lanes in the opposing direction will remain open to alleviate congestion in the area.
