Court update: Sentencing in a drug case, hearing date set in a child porn case

Oct 26, 2017 | 8:51 AM

Thirty-two-month sentence in drug case

A Kelowna man arrested in a Grande Prairie ALERT bust in October of last year has been sentenced.

Elson Blue Joy has been given 32 months jail time, minus two months credit for time served, for a count of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He has also been given a concurrent 30-day sentence after also pleading guilty to two charges of possession of body armour.

This comes after Joy was given a 65-day sentence after guilty pleas to assault and breach of conditions in another case.

He and another man were arrested after searches at two Grande Prairie homes turned up fentanyl, cocaine, body armour, more than $56,000 cash and other drugs.

The other man, Karman Singh Grewal from Langley, B.C., is due to stand trial in April.

Preliminary hearing set in child pornography case

A preliminary hearing in a Grande Prairie child pornography case has been set for May 10.

Wally Adams is facing charges of making and possession of child pornography.

The Grande Prairie man was arrested in Calgary in August after a search at a Swan City home.

An investigation started after local police received a tip from the National Child Exploitation Centre.
