New trial dates set for accused Prairie Mall shooter

New trial dates have been set for the accused shooter in the Prairie Mall shooting case.

Liban Musse’s trial is now set for July 3 through 6, 2018.

It was originally scheduled to start in May but had to be postponed because he did not hire a lawyer in time.

He was also denied bail during a court appearance Monday in Grande Prairie.

Three people were injured in the September 2015 shooting incident.

Four other men were charged in connection with this case. Charges against two were dismissed, one was given a 30-day sentence after pleading guilty to failure to comply and breach of conditions charges while a fourth, Richard Vaillancourt, is due to stand trial in February on a robbery charge.

 

Preliminary hearing set for Atikameg murder case

Preliminary hearing dates have been set in an Atikameg murder case.

The hearing for Ivy Ardis Laboucan of Atikameg and Blake Dwight Anderson of Slave Lake is set for January 8 to 12 in Peace River court.

Both were charged after the January 2016 death of 32-year-old Jeff Gladue. He was found dead outside a home in Atikameg.

Charges against a third person arrested in the case, Patrick Letendre also of Atikameg, were withdrawn in June.

 

Two-year conditional sentence given to Grande Prairie man in Westlock court

A Grande Prairie man has been given a two-year conditional sentence by a Westlock court after pleading guilty to a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Ryan Paul Ouelette was charged after a vehicle rollover in August of 2016 near Westlock in which a 23-year-old from Dapp, Alberta died, and two other people were hurt.

Ouelette had originally faced a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, two more of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm and six other counts related to impaired driving.

Conditional sentences are served in the community. Strict conditions are attached.
