November’s STEP and BEEP

Enforcement Services officers will be watching for seatbelt infractions this month as part of its Selective Traffic Education Program (STEP).

Sgt. Kelly Kokesch says there is a consistent amount of city drivers that don’t buckle up.

“They give all kinds of reasons why they don’t wear their seatbelts, but it has been in law since I’ve ever been around and it baffles me why people continue to not wear their seatbelt.”

The fine not wearing a seatbelt is $155.

This months Bylaw Enforcement Education Program is on abandoned vehicles.

“During the winter months it’s crucial that people are aware of the snow bans and parking zones in areas that they live in and the roads, whether they are collectors, whether they are priority 1 & 2 routes to ensure that when snow bans are in effect their vehicles are not on those streets and roads.”

He says a vehicle is considered abandoned if left unattended for more than 72 hours.
