City Council budget review begins

Nov 15, 2017 | 8:53 AM

City council will start its three-day review of the 2018 budget today.

Mayor Bill Given says the new council will get a chance to make changes approved during four-year budget talks by the previous council and look at any upcoming projects

“Specifically, I think council will be considering the next couple phases of the downtown rehabilitation program, there are also a number of specific items that were referred from council committee to the budget deliberations so council will see some of those.”

He adds three possibilities for tax increases will be considered.

“The outgoing council directed administration to provide some different budget scenarios so administration will be presenting status quo which was reflective of approximately 4.2 percent, they also developed a 3 percent scenario and zero percent scenario.”

Budget deliberations are open to the public in Council Chambers at City Hall and will also be available online through a city webcast.
