Evergreen Park funding not considered in 2018 budget

Nov 17, 2017 | 9:39 AM

City council is not considering Evergreen Park’s $200,000 ask for the 2018 budget.

It wasn’t included as a line item in the budget.

The park asked for $200,000 for each of the next five years during a council meeting last month. They had the same request last year, and were not given the money.

Their idea for transit routes that will go to the park was sent by council to a future committee meeting.

However, the discussion sparked a motion from Councillor Jackie Clayton regarding community funding, and the need to discuss it as well as strategic funding strategies.

Councillor Clyde Blackburn discussed the need to fund appropriate community programming.

“We have talked a lot over many years about the fact it’s a great place to live, work and play,” he said.

“I would like to ensure as part of our ongoing strategy, we look upon this (overall community funding) as a good investment in Grande Prairie.”

Clayton’s motion passed unanimously.
