101 Street downtown now open
As the winter season begins to roll in, the Downtown Rehabilitation and Streetscapes Project construction is starting to wrap up for the next few months.
Vehicles are now able to drive down 101 Street downtown between 100 Avenue and 103 Avenue. The re-opening of 101 Avenue later in November will bring phases one and two to nearing completion. Project Technologist Conor Coney explains that the work for the first two phases is “substantially complete” with minor items remaining like landscape work.
The work officially began in the summer of 2016 with a few delays in construction attributed to wet weather. Phases three and four are in the works with preliminary designs available on the city’s website. The next two phases would deal with 100 Avenue between 98 Street and 102 Street.
The project includes underground work to accommodate larger buildings to be built, replacement of old roads and sidewalks as well as contemporary streetscape work.
